Message from the President

Summer 2010
Hello and Greetings!!
I am starting my second and final year as Utah PTA President.
It has been a whirlwind year and I have learned a lot and hope to make this next year my best so I will accomplish my goals as Utah PTA President.
Some of my goals are:
- Build a TEAM with the Utah PTA Board. Help us all to learn to LISTEN, assume the best, and trust the intentions of others.
- Tap the talents of each officer in Utah PTA and allow them to do their job. In other words, DELEGATE and trust the people who are part of the team. Where there might be challenges, work through them together.
- Improve personally by developing new character skills, practicing listening skills, trying new things, developing my talents in “unknown territories.”
- Have a fabulous convention where our attendees are trained in their positions, learn and laugh together and leave feeling confi dentin their abilities to lead and “Celebrate Children” in their own schools and PTAs.
- Help the EML (Emerging Minority Leader) committee grow and succeed. Work towards making Utah PTA more welcoming to all.
- Visit and do effective trainings in each Region in Utah.
- Represent Utah PTA effectively with education community associates and in advocacy efforts.
Some of these goals were definitely met, and some have not been met this past year, but I am not at all discouraged.
I know there are wonderful parents and volunteers and leaders in PTA who want to work together to help our children succeed.
I will re-dedicate myself to doing the best I can do and keep my perspective of WHO I am serving and what my own goals are.
I suggest you as presidents or leaders in your PTA do the same.
Our theme, as you know is “Celebrate Children”.
Our objective is to help each child have the opportunity to reach his/her full potential.
Our efforts should be done, and, in fact, dedicated to the children and all that is best for them.
We have an “open door” policy at Utah PTA.
The PTA office, located in Murray is YOUR office.
Call and come on in. Your state officers are all volunteers just like you.
Our office staff, Ginger Dahlquist, Amy Mumford, and Candace Gleave are wonderful employees who want to help your PTA succeed.
Welcome aboard! Thank you for saying, “yes” to being the PTA President or leader.
As this year kicks off, let’s be on the same TEAM and “Celebrate Children” together!
