“The Whittler” shows the challenges that Whittler’s face when making art. In carving there is a limited amount of physical material an artist can work with. Because of this Whittler’s only get one, maybe two, tries at carving a feature. Because of this slim margin for error, mistakes are inevitable and there is no amount of erasing, deleting, or covering that can “hide” mistakes. It is up to “The Whittler” to accept the imperfections and live with what was created for what it is. Something that I as an artist must do every time I pick up the whittling knife.
