Teacher Grants

Teacher Grants

Many PTA/PTSAs ask if they can give grants to a teacher from their school. This is a legitimate PTA/PTSA expense and should be allocated in your budget. It should be given for use in their classrooms and to enhance their teaching.

There should be clear guidelines for the qualifications for the Grant. There also should be clear guidelines on how the money is to be disbursed. This should be decided on at the beginning of the school year and advertised well in advance so that all teachers have the opportunity to apply.

The Grant MUST include:
* The Teacher MUST currently be a member of your PTA/PTSA

* There should be an application form for them to fill out so that the committee making the decisions can all see what the teacher is asking for.
* Funds can be distributed when receipts are turned in OR they can be given a check and turn in receipts when the money is spent.

* Set the parameters of how much each teacher can apply for and timing.

* The money must be spent in the current fiscal year.

The Grant COULD include components such as:
* How this money will impact students and the number of students they have.

* Will it impact students for more than 1 year?

* Will it add to their department and be a lasting entity, or a one-time event?

If you have questions on how to start the Grants for your PTA/PTSA, contact your Council President or Region Director for help.
