Allows LEAs to put in place policies to better enforce unlawful use of e-cigarettes on school grounds

This bill allows child care providers to apply for grants that support our child care providers. We know that quality child care providers are necessary. Many parents need access to child care and we know these people are instrumental in our children's lives. We support more access to quality child care providers.

Utah's consent laws make it to minors are unable to access services to help them quit smoking and vaping without a parent's consent. Some minors won't ask their parents, because they are trying to hide their usage of these products. There is some concern that by making this exception, it opens the door to other exceptions that we may not support (extreme example would be abortion). This bill is very specific in that it ONLY applies to tobacco & nicotine cessation services.

A founding principle of PTA’s mission is to promote the safety and well-being of all children and youth. PTA believes that technology can enhance the learning experience and foster creativity and connectedness among students, educators and families. However, technology can also give rise to digital environments that could be harmful to children and youth. PTA supports efforts to ensure a safe and positive digital experience for all children and families, fostering learning and healthy lifestyles for all children and equipping them with the technological literacy and access to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
 

Income tax deductions reduce the funding available for public schools.

This bill enhances school security by funding and distributing safety products like safety equipment. Improved security measures can lead to greater peace of mind for students, parents, and educators, allowing children to focus on learning without safety concerns.

The Red Light Camera Pilot Program would improve traffic safety at high-risk intersections. By deterring red-light running, the program may lead to fewer crashes, reducing the risk of injury or death for children as pedestrians, bicyclists, or passengers in vehicles. Additionally, the program's public education phase may raise awareness among families about safe driving habits, fostering a culture of traffic safety that benefits children long-term. If successful, the program could lead to permanent safety measures that make roads safer for everyone, including young and vulnerable road users.

While this would create more affordable housing for families and children it takes away funding received by LEAs through the tax increment. This would make it difficult for schools to support the potential increased growth.

Pornographic materials do not belong in our K-12 schools. But local communities may have differing views on what constitutes pornography. Therefore the issue should be left to local boards to manage.
