Quarter 2 Focus & Implementation Guide (October – December)

Welcome to Quarter 2 of our PTA: Power Up membership year! As we move out of initial back-to-school routines, Q2 is all about shifting from transactional sign-ups to building deep Social Capital, Adult Connection, and Shared Power across our school communities.

Use the curated toolkit highlights below to charge your local grid through October, November, and December!

Q2 Campaign Focus & Key Events

October: Power Up Engagement & Gratitude

  • National Custodian Day (Oct 2): Bridge the social gap by celebrating the staff who keep our schools running. Host a morning "Thank You & Treat" station where parents drop off notes and stay 10 minutes to connect with staff and each other.
  • Autumn & Halloween Festivals: Turn transactional lines into connection opportunities. Set up a warm PTA Connection Station (cider, cocoa, or coffee) at Trunk-or-Treats where board members can chat with families in a low-pressure environment.
  • Monthly Award Benchmark: On Target Award – Submit at least 75% of your previous year’s total membership dues by October 25th to earn your digital badge and state convention drawing entry!

November: Power Up Value & Shared Power

  • Season of Gratitude (Gratitude Wall): Shift the mindset from individual isolation to collective strength. Create a physical or digital Gratitude Wall highlighting community connections: "We are thankful for the 400+ voices that give our students a seat at the table!"
  • The "What Do You Think?" Pulse Poll: Practice true family engagement by asking for input before asking for tasks. Send a simple, 1-question digital poll on campus safety or family support topics to give members a direct voice in your planning.
  • Monthly Award Benchmark: Trailblazer Award – Submit 100% + at least 1 additional member over last year's total dues by November 25th.

December: Mid-Year Push & Winter Community Connection

  • Mid-Year "Gift of Voice" Membership Drive: Use the winter program and holiday concert window to capture mid-year memberships. Remind families and grandparents attending winter performances that joining PTA requires zero volunteer hours—it simply gifts a voice to child advocacy.
  • Winter Teacher & Staff Refresh: Boost staff morale and head toward the Super Teachers & Staff Award (100% faculty/staff membership) by hosting a holiday cocoa bar or restocking classroom emergency buckets.
  • Monthly Award Benchmark: Beehive Award – Submit 10% over last year’s total membership dues by December 25th to qualify for digital badges and custom PTA tablecloth drawings!

Actionable Toolkit Strategies for Q2

Pillar 2 Spotlight: Moving From Involvement to Engagement

  • Involvement (Traditional): Tells parents what tasks the PTA needs them to do.
  • Engagement (Power Up Model): Listens to parents to find out what they care about and shares decision-making power.
  • Q2 Action: Audit your upcoming board agendas—are you hosting lectures, or creating spaces for open conversation?

The 80/20 Digital Rule

Don't let your social media become a static bulletin board!

  • 80% of Content: Showcase real parent faces, student success stories, teacher grant thank-yous, and community connections.
  • 20% of Content: Direct calls-to-action or transactional "Join PTA" links.
  • Remember: People don't join organizations; they join people!

Engaging Father Figures & Male Mentors

Deepen your adult network with intentional outreach to dads, grandfathers, and male mentors:

  • Focus on purpose over parties—invite them to engage around topics impacting their student's daily life.
  • Offer flexible, non-traditional volunteer opportunities (like morning safety walks or weekend service days).
  • Position your unit to qualify for the state-level MARS (Men Are Really Super) Award (40%+ male roster).
