Eden Smith - One Tiny Thing (for solo marimba)

Artist Statement

This piece starts with one note, A. A is only one pitch and one color. As the piece goes on, more parts are added, but A is still so important. Why? Despite being monochromatic, A is the root of the i (minor 1) chord, which provides a stable point for the chord progression, or a 'home base'. Without A, this piece would be unstable and never resolve. This is an analogy for each of us. We are all necessary for success. I belong because one person can be the difference between succeeding and failing, and I can be that person.
