Artist Statement

First, a nervous, deep voice seeks approval from others. The higher notes do not accept him, so he retreats. The minor section is the progression of a storm--first a few raindrops, then a downpour, peaking with lightning and thunder. The storm represents difficult times. The characters come together to weather it. Then the theme returns--the characters sing in the same voice, showing acceptance of the lower voice. He can finally say, ”I belong." Many people want approval and then experience difficult times, which reveals how much they need each other. Then they finally feel a sense of belonging.
