Parijat Sarkar - When Worlds Collide

Artist Statement

Belonging isn't about fitting in. Belonging is about acceptance and letting what you love be a part of you. My love for art, music, and dance define my uniqueness and how I am not afraid to show it. The spilled paint depicts the messy imperfection that guides a person to find how they belong. The mountains in the doorway portray Utah, and the bells (ghungroo) on my feet, symbolize my Indian roots. The painted peace sign represents my love for activism and how one can find peace, once they accept who they are. Belonging is what happens "when worlds collide."
