When I think of belonging, it’s easy to visualize myself simply laughing alongside a group of friends. But in reality, it’s not that simple. Belonging is a concept that is deeply rooted within our world’s problems-and solutions. I began to imagine our divisions as lines, constantly splitting our world apart. Throughout history, hatred and misunderstanding has forced us to sort people in behind solid lines of worth and belonging. We, as a people, must learn to come together and erase these lines we’ve drawn. Only then will I truly be able to say “I belong.”
