The goal of the Utah PTA Spirit of Inclusivity Award is to recognize an outstanding PTA or individual who has organized an inclusivity event using the PTA National Standards for Family School Partnerships (https://tinyurl.com/trc5et86).
Examples of Inclusivity (highlight any of the following or come up with your own examples in the Impact Statement):
- Organize an event to welcome families into the school community.
- Find new ways to effectively communicate with students and families.
- Collaborating with parents, teachers and administrators to support student success.
- Implement ways to represent and speak up for every child.
- Collaborate with the local community on PTA issues that affect children.
- Increase efforts to involve minority parents in PTA.
Award Due Dates
Council: Councils set due date (prior to Region due date, end of January / beginning of February).
Region: Regions set due date (around beginning / 2nd week of February).
Utah PTA: March 1st (Utah PTA will NOT accept late awards).
Requirements:
- Local PTA must be in good standing (https://shorturl.at/nD2UX).
- Each individual applicant must be a member of the PTA and exemplify the PTA Purpose and Mission. (https://shorturl.at/DFkOG).
- Impact statement - up to 1000 typed words (about the length of two single-spaced pages).
Supplementary material - 3 separate pages on a PDF:
- Page 1: Photo of nominee
- Page 2: Letter of support from a constituent
- Page 3: One page of supplemental materials
- These materials may include photographs, articles, letters, program materials, links to videos or other items.
Selection Criteria (please describe at least three of the following in the impact statement):
- Nominee mentored or assisted in the appointment/election of a minority to a leadership role in the PTA.
- Nominee’s effort to involve minorities resulted in a positive impact on students in the school.
- Nominee participated in a program/projects that implemented the six National Standards for Family School Partnership which are: Welcoming All Families into the School Community, Communicating Effectively, Supporting Student Success, Speaking Up for Every Child, Sharing Power, and Collaborating with Community.
- Nominee organized an activity and sought the involvement of minority parents, leaders, or organizations in their community who exemplify the mission of Utah PTA.
- Include details of the activity so that other schools can implement the program if they choose.
